Australia's only Certified B Corp photographer, working exclusively in
sustainable architecture, green infrastructure, and regenerative landscapes.
WORK
Buildings That Perform.
Landscapes that put habitat back.
Photographing projects that are tackling climate change, biodiversity loss, and housing that's good for people and planet.
WHY
Every project either removes habitat or creates it.
There is no neutral.
Every build clears something. Most projects account for carbon and stop there, because carbon has a number and habitat doesn't. That's the gap I'm interested in.
ABOUT
Zoologist.
Environmental scientist.
Photographer.
IN THAT ORDER.
I didn't come to sustainability through photography. I came to photography through sustainability. My first decade was environmental science-tracking groundwater contamination on construction sites and writing environmental impact assessments for major infrastructure.
So when you hand me your performance data, I'm reading it, not nodding at it.
The second decade, I swapped the clipboard for a camera and documented sustainable design with more than 200 built environment businesses. Now they're the same job: helping the built environment become nature-positive.
(My Honours thesis was on sexually transmitted diseases in birds. That's a longer story.)

HOW I SHOOT
Most photographers
wouldn't ask if you have
an HRV in your project.
Or whether the north-facing living room is worth shooting in the middle of winter, when the sun reaches right across the floor - the same floor it deliberately won't touch in summer. They don't ask, because they've never needed to know why it matters.
So those images don't get taken. And the next time you're explaining to a client why a high-performance home is worth building, you have a beautiful gallery and nothing to point at.
I shoot the story as well as the space. The HRV. The sun on the floor in July. The induction cooktop, so electrification has a picture. Then you've got something to work with - in a client meeting, on social, in the slow work of convincing people this is worth doing. And they're beautiful, which is the whole point. The performance features end up doing the selling, instead of sitting in a spec sheet nobody reads.
We exclusively take on projects and collaborate with clients who prioritise performance and sustainability, so it's fantastic to work with a photographer who shares these values.

THE DIFFERENCE
Anyone can take a photo.
Not everyone shares your values.
“Business as a force for good” is easy to say and easier to fudge, so every year I publish exactly what this business gave back: the pro bono shoots and time, the number of Wild Houses funded, the dollars donated. Proof, not promises.

Totals since I became a B Corp in 2021, rounded down. Hours are part logged, part estimated. Pro bono photography is valued at my standard rates. Houses are funded by the businesses and individuals who pledge, and counted once paid.
I was drawn to Marnie because of our shared values. The fact that she’s also a talented photographer and a lovely person means she’s our ideal collaborator to help share the stories of our work.

Cost Sharing
Not a separate service, just a better way to pay for a commissioned shoot. The architect, builder, landscape designer and suppliers on a project share the creative fee. Everyone pays the same licensing fee and gets full usage rights. The more collaborators, the lower the cost per party - usually 20 to 60% less than commissioning alone.
PHOTOGRAPHERS AND NOT-FOR-PROFITS
I really enjoyed working with Marnie. The process was really smooth, and the photos are amazing. I especially appreciated how Marnie took the time to show me exactly what she does and how she does it making sure that I was completely comfortable and knowledgeable about the process.

Frequently
Asked Questions
-
I exclusively photograph sustainable architecture and design projects that advance the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. This includes passive houses, net-zero buildings, green infrastructure, regenerative landscapes, renewable energy integrations, biodiversity-focused developments, and nature-positive design using low-impact materials and energy-efficient systems. I don't photograph conventional projects - only those creating positive environmental impact.
-
I actually know what an HRV system does (and why you get excited about airtightness results). I understand that your north-facing windows aren't just "nice light" - they're strategic design decisions, and thermal bridging isn't something you fix with a band-aid. I also understand that performance doesn’t stop at the building envelope - it extends into landscapes, water systems, and the way projects work with living systems over time.
I'm also Australia's only Certified B Corp architectural photographer, meaning my business has been independently verified for social and environmental performance. I'm certified carbon neutral, donate at least 1% of my annual revenue to environmental causes, and only work with clients creating sustainable design. When I photograph your project, I’m not just capturing pretty rooms or gardens - I’m documenting performance that matters, across buildings and the environments that support them.
-
Anyone can take a photo, but not everyone understands your values and mission. The built environment interacts with every UN Sustainable Development Goal, and I focus on the most urgent issues of our time: climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable communities.
When you're designing projects that respect natural systems and support human wellbeing, you need a photographer who genuinely believes in that work. This focus means you get someone genuinely invested in your project's impact - every image helps others see what responsible design looks like and inspires more projects like yours.
-
Through my photography practice and nature positive initiatives, I help built environment businesses move beyond just talking about sustainability to actually demonstrating it. The images I create don't just show beautiful projects - they tell the story of your commitment to creating spaces that are genuinely better for nature and people.
-
No. Very little is genuinely sustainable, and the word's been sold so hard it barely means anything. When I'm talking about buildings I'd rather say high-performing, or low energy. Those are measurable. But outside the industry almost nobody knows what they mean, and a word nobody understands is no use to anybody. So I sometimes use sustainable. Under protest.

Every package includes pre-production planning, the creative photography session, post-production editing, fully edited high and low-resolution digital images, standard licensing for self-promotional use, travel within one hour of the Macedon Ranges, and complimentary pitching of your project to Australian and international architecture publications.
-
My rates vary based on package size and number of images. To make high-quality photography more accessible, I offer a cost-sharing model that allows collaborators to join a shoot and reduce individual costs. This approach can significantly lower the cost for each party while ensuring everyone receives full licensing rights.
-
Cost-sharing allows architects, builders, designers and suppliers involved in a project to share the creative fee for a shoot, while each party pays the same licensing fee. This means everyone receives full usage rights, and the more collaborators involved, the lower the total cost per party - saving anywhere from 20–60% compared to commissioning the shoot alone.
-
Standard packages include non-exclusive, perpetual licensing for self-promotional use - marketing your brand and services. I retain copyright and reserve the right to license images to publications and third parties. The homeowner receives complimentary personal-use licensing for low-resolution images.
-
The Project Credit Program is a way to reward collaboration and support your supplier network. When you share your project gallery with suppliers, you’ll receive five bonus images at no extra cost. If suppliers later license images featuring their products, you’ll also receive a 10% credit from their licensing fees, which can be used towards a future shoot or donated to the Odonata Foundation to support biodiversity restoration.
It’s designed as a win-win - adding value to your package, strengthening supplier relationships, and creating more opportunities for your project to be shared and published.
-
Yes, and I don't charge extra for this service. I have established relationships with Green, Sanctuary, Houses, Habitus, Country Style, Home Beautiful, Australian House & Garden, The Design Files, and international publications. I actively pitch client projects because sustainable design deserves recognition. While publication isn't guaranteed, my success rate is consistently high. I’m also represented by Living Inside agency in Milan that pitches my work to overseas publications.
-
Yes, I require professional styling for all architectural photography projects (unless you're an interior designer or stylist yourself). Professional styling significantly impacts the final image quality by clearing clutter, preparing each space, and adding curated props like bedding, cushions, and botanicals. I believe it's as important an investment as the photography itself.
-
I provide an online gallery with project proofs within 1-2 days of the shoot. Once you select your final images (and any cost-sharing partners agree on selections), I deliver fully edited images within a few days. Final images are supplied once the invoice is paid in full.
-
Everywhere! Travel within one hour each way of the Macedon Ranges is included, and beyond that I charge an hourly rate for travel time and mileage. For interstate projects, I arrange flights, accommodation, and car hire, which are charged separately.
-
Yes, I offer a limited number of one-on-one mentoring sessions for photographers and small business owners looking to improve their workflows, organisation, efficiency, and purpose. For photographers, I cover topics like licensing, pricing, portfolio building, getting published, interior photography techniques, and switching genres. For small business owners, I focus on workflow systems, client management, file organisation, branding, and incorporating purpose into your business. Sessions are tailored to your needs and can be 2-4 hours, virtual or in-person in the Macedon Ranges.
-
Yes, because apparently every photographer has a print shop these days. But mine's different - it actually gives back instead of just cluttering up more walls. Every year I donate at least the 1% of my revenue to environmental causes, and 100% of profits from my Prints for Wildlife series go directly to independent wildlife shelters caring for native animals. So when you buy my prints, you're not just getting pretty pictures - you're funding joey milk and wombat rehabilitation. Art with actual purpose from a female-owned, B Corp-certified business.
-
Absolutely. Lifting up organisations aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals is important to me. I donate time and services to not-for-profit organisations in biodiversity/conservation, climate change, and sustainable housing. I've worked with organisations including the Australian Passivhaus Association, Climate Council, Renew, Biodiversity Legacy, EcoGipps, Quoll Headquarters, Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network, and The Odonata Foundation. If you're a qualifying organisation, please reach out to discuss pro bono opportunities.
-
Wild Houses is a one-to-one pledge for the built environment. For every project a business delivers, they fund one house for wildlife: a certified nest box, $500, reconciled at the end of the financial year against what was actually built. Nothing upfront, no lock-in, and it has never been monetised.
The Biodiversity Toolkit turns biodiversity science into things a designer or landscape firm can buy, specify and put on a tender. It's structured on Biodiversity Sensitive Urban Design (Garrard and Bekessy, RMIT) and reviewed by an ecologist. In testing now, as bespoke builds with a small number of firms.
