ELK, one of my favourite clients and ethical fashion brands. Conscious design and fair-trade principles. Partnering with a number of local and international charities that support women, children, and the environment. Documenting their own supply chain and impact with an annual transparency report. From the words of founder Marnie Goding "We see it as our responsibility to work with integrity, transparency and honesty. Our journey is not finite. It will continue on as an ever - changing quest for improvement and reduced impact."

This is how business should be.
Following on from my first post a week and a bit ago about the everyday sustainable measures that I live by, this is no 2 (p.s. I need a hashtag or heading for these, help!). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
#2 SUPERANNUATION
-
As of 30 June 2019, Australians have AU$2.9 trillion in superannuation assets, making Australia the 4th largest holder of pension fund assets in the world.
-
Now, superannuation money is your money. It’s up to you what you invest it in. It can fund the destruction of our planet or build regimes of oppression. Or it can build renewable energy solutions, and invest in healthcare and sustainable companies.
-
It's so easy to stay with the first super company your first job ever signed you up to. But it's also so easy to change where your super is invested. Money talks.
-
I have held all my super in @australianethical since I was in my twenties, and it's one of the most well-known and well-performing ethical super funds. KPMG found that Australian Ethical is the fastest growing super fund by members over the last 5 years to 2018. There are other good options around though, including specific investments within your existing fund, or @future_super is another popular one. @verve.super is Australia's first super fund tailored specifically towards women, but are still relatively new.
-
Anyway, take a look at your super and what your money is being invested, in and makes sure it aligns with your values 🌱
The clean lines of @lynda.gardener's new boutique couples only accommodation in Daylesford - Room + Board. Hiding inside is a lush mix of hanging plants, slouchy couches and layers of textiles.

Out now in @countrystyle mag.
It's been amazing to see a lot of last year's clients putting on auction's to raise money for the fires. I'm probably missing heaps of you, and I know everyone is donating in their own way, but thank you @wentworthhousedaylesford (who's auctioning 2 nights accomodation and bidding is open until Thursday 9pm), @captainscottagehobart, @raffahhouse, @the_bothwell_butchers_house @sheepwashbay, @mysisterandthesea @whalesongshack and @brunyboathouse (both of whom I'm shooting next week).
-
Thanks @margescottage for opening up her cottage for free temporary accommodation under the Airbnb Open Homes, and @thehostingmasterclass who is donating her online class to fire-affected hosts by matching every dollar donated to @bushheritageaus. You can also sign up as part of a mentoring 'big sister' (or big brother right Sarah?!) program to help out fire-affected folks. 💚
Like many people and businesses in Australia and overseas, I've donated money (mine being to @wireswildliferescue as animals are so close to my heart), but also written to my local member regarding climate change action, taken linen and bedding to some wonderful sewers to make pouches for wildlife, donated artwork to the wonderful auction that @ruthribeaucourt has organised - but I still feel helpless and sad.

However, I had planned to start a series of insta posts this year that outline all the things I do in my day to day life that attempt to minimise my impact on the world - so what a fitting time to start it now we're all probably thinking about what the next steps might be after these horrific fires (I'm saying that like they're out and bushfire season is over, which it clearly isn't). Anyway... The first one is about @1percentftp, a non-profit started by @patagonia's founder Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews of @blueribbonflies. It's a simple concept - donate 1% of your gross sales (or 1% of your annual salary if you're an individual) to a non-profit that aligns with your values and adds to your brand story. There are more than 2,000 members, in over 45 countries, coming together to protect the future of our planet.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And 2020 might be the perfect time to formalise your donations, especially considering that a lot of you have probably already given a large sum of money to a eligible non-profit (i.e. WIRES is one). 1% for the Planet is focused on the environment, animals and climate change more than people, so the non-profits you can donate to are focused towards these areas (but if one is not on the list you can suggest it to them, it's not exhaustive). Have a read and see if it's something that aligns with you or your business in 2020.
I will be donating a 20 x 30" unframed fine art print to the art and creative auction organised by the amazing @ruthribeaucourt. Shipping from Australia to anywhere in the world will be included, and you can have a choice of one print out of the 3 options shown here, printed on heavy weight archival 100% cotton etching rag paper. This print is valued at $500.

If you are an artist or creative, please see if you can contribute also - or just turn up at @ruthribeaucourt on Friday 10 January at 9h30 GMT+1 and bid for a beautiful piece of art that will support the Australian Red Cross. The auction is open for two days and has donations from over 200 creatives from 20 countries 🐨
Another year has passed, always so quickly, which makes me think about how lucky we are to have had the time. One of my busiest years, with over 115 shoots, 75 clients, and about 50 publications. I switched my focus to purpose-driven clients in order to live my personal values through work, and can't wait to build on this in 2020. I'm still a member for 1% for the Planet, and want to make the time to complete my B-Corp certification instead of getting bogged down in work and putting it off. I think this awful time of bushfires in Australia is a reminder to think about climate change, our future, and what we can do both as individuals and businesses in 2020 to make a difference in every way we can. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Happy new year!
Greenery, wilderness, plants, trees, flowers, grasses. I shoot it all, and love big wild gardens - but structured courtyards like this beautiful one designed by @lisaellisgardens are just as lovely. And it had a cat in it, which makes it a 100 times better :) As seen in @houseandgarden in July.
Can you ever have too many spots? Someone asked me if I liked spots last week, and realised that every time I saw them I was wearing something spotty! I need to get my hands this soft and floaty cotton voile Sydney skirt from one of my favourite local brands @mettamelbourne. Paired here with the Edie spot shirt.
Looking for sustainable homewares in the bedroom? This is the bedroom that @lynda.gardener, @bellebrightproject and I put together for an ethical decorating story in @houseandgarden last month.

I love this hemp bedhead handmade by @drew_hemming_upholstery for @peonihome, with linen by @elkieark, pillow by @wearepampa, blanket by @loomtowels and basket by @thedharmadoor. The beautiful handmade pendant light is made in africa by @klaylife, flowers by @katiemarxflowers, shiburi side table by @plyroom, animal friendly lambswool rug by @felt_indie, candles that give back by @kandilacompany and waterscatten recycled paper bowls by @weft.textiles.

Styled by @inside_story_ at @lynda.gardener's new Room + Board, Daylesford (which means you can sleep in this bed when you stay there!).
My green thumb cousin @benshawpermaculture has transformed his backyard garden over the years into an edible oasis, and his story was up on @thedesignfiles last week (link in bio).
-
He's packing up and travelling around Australia next year, and is happy to exchange permaculture advice for a place to park his camper, a meal, a bottle of wine, or cold hard cash - send him a DM if you're interested in finding out more. Doesn't matter how remote you are, he's adventurous and willing to travel...
I had a little chat with one of my favourite ethical brands - @armadilloandco, about what it means to try and tread lightly in both home and business. I also shot a few new pics of our house as I have think I have about 8 Armadillo rugs at last count - I've always loved supporting the ethos and values of such a great company 🌱

The beautiful @lumierelodge in Hobart, seen in @countrystylemag and also the Christmas issue of @homesandgardenuk. Beautiful stories by Elizabeth Wilson and @aliheath_uk respectively.
Behind the scenes with @lynda.gardener and an unruly car cover in the wild winds of Daylesford this evening 💨 perfect shot right after that of course ;)
A curious mix of tree-house, vintage train carriage, locally felled timber, materials from a nearby church, and other salvaged bits and pieces. This is Otway Loft in Forrest, and it's spectacular.
Karly in her Glen Iris kitchen - her renovation is featured in the latest issue of @insideoutmag.

Story by @jessicabellef
A few weeks ago I travelled up to the annual Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers for @countrystylemag to visit some stunning gardens, floral displays, art and food. Now in it's 70th year, the carnival attracted more than 250,000 visitors last year and showcases the region’s floral prowess not only in the city centre’s two main parks, but also in more than 100 private gardens.
-
I also put myself in a very rare position in front of a lens as well as behind it (at the same time). See my insta stories for a little film "live on location" that the talented guys at @saltstudioau put together over a couple of days up there.
Sustainable materials and ethical manufacturing processes in products for the home. That's the theme that @inside_story_ (aka @lyndagardener and @bellebrightproject) and I immediately came up with when @houseandgarden suggested that we find a theme for a decorating shoot.
-
Thanks to all the great brands that contributed to this epic shoot - see the full story in the November issue of @houseandgarden.

The country kitchen in the 1870s cottage on @dunmore_farm - a 60-hectare cattle farm in Molyullah in central VIC, where Bec Amos and Angus Macdougall call home.

This is Leah. She started @daylesfordgrazing after going to events and not knowing whether the food she was eating was ethical or not. It didn't sit well with her, so she's sourcing produce from as many local producers as she can find. And when her website is up next month, you will be able to read about them on her 'Meet The Producers' page.
